Firewise USA Certification
The Highlands at Silverado has long understood the need for fire safe stewardship of the community. Since 2002 the community has followed an annual CalFire audited fire prevention program.
In 2017 the community achieved Firewise Certification and continues to take a pro-active strategy to mitigate risk. Becoming a proactive fire smart community has included:
- Establishment and maintenance of defensible space along the borders of the community
- Annual tree management programs including the elimination of hundreds of trees based on health, proximity, and density
- Elimination of combustible landscaping materials – especially bark on community property
Highlands Fire Safety Committee
The Highlands established a Fire Safety Committee consisting of both Estate and Villa owners in early 2021 to focus on projects that will make our community safer.
Napa Communities Firewise Foundation
The NCFF is a non-profit dedicated to reducing the fire load in Napa County and helping the community be firewise and firesmart. It is composed of many local Firesafe Councils, including the Silverado Firewise Council which represents all of Silverado including the Highlands. Go to the NCFF website.
NCFF has developed a Community Wildlife Protection Plan (CWPP) and is actively pursuing grants to fund the planned projects. Read the plan.
